Just wanted to do a quick check-in since it’s been a while since the last update went out. I’ll be following up with a proper update soon, but I wanted to let you all know what’s going on since this one’s taking even longer than usual to get ready!
Right now I’m working on one last big unplanned change: a revamp of the character creation process. Filling the game with a convincing variety of playable characters, enemies, and NPCs and animating them all is a huge task. Given our small size, I planned on “cheating” by taking some creative shortcuts and recycling assets, but the last thing I want is for players to feel underwhelmed by the characters’ art, or feel like they all look the same. The new system will help us avoid this outcome and open up a ton of new capabilities like visible clothing/armor changes.
It’s taking longer than expected since the changes turned out to be pretty complex, and I got sidetracked by some unexpected (positive!) developments around GDC this year. This will be the last big, unscheduled change since obviously we need to get this game done! Lots more detail on all this soon.
